May 3, Milly

Thought it was time I updated you on our puppy Milly! She is now 17 weeks old and loving her walks. We have introduced her to the extended lead and she just loves to run. Barney is very patient with her although still clumsy at times. Now she is bigger she can get out his way a bit better though!
Toilet training is going well with most of it going outside and she goes through the night too. She still has to use paper indoors sometimes when we are out but it's not too bad.
We are taking Barney and Milly to the seaside in Wales next week which will be lovely. I can't wait to see them in the sea!
Now the UK weather is improving getting out on decent walks is much easier.
Why not share your favourite walks with the rest of our Waggy Dogs visitors? You will find the link on this blog.
I look forwards to hearing your stories.
Bye for now.

Mar 22, Toilet Training

For those of you toilet training your puppy - like me! Or even if you have to leave your dog for long periods, check out the amazing UGO Dog Loo! It's like nothing else I've seen and replaces the need for training pads. It's eco friendly too! I recently bought one and now want to tell you how much easier they make toileting for your dog.

<a href='http://www.ugodog.net/uk-index.html?a_aid=a5449fe3&amp;a_bid=78e980ee'><img src='http://www.ugodog.net/affiliate/scripts/sb.php?a_aid=a5449fe3&amp;a_bid=78e980ee' alt="UGoDog Indoor Dog Potty" title="UGoDog Indoor Dog Potty"></a>

It's a U.S company but don't let that put you off if you are elsewhere as shipping is very straight forward. Whats more it should save you a fortune in pee pads! Good Luck!

Mar 18, Breed Pages

I will be adding some specific breed pages to Waggy Dogs soon. A lot of visitors search for breed information and breed rescue. Although we must not forget the mutts like my Barney! Now he is a bit of a mixture! The only thing that's sure is the Bearded Collie. We also think a bit of Lurcher and maybe Spaniel in there too! Someone once asked me if he was an Italian Spinone - I wish! But I wouldn't swap him for the world! My Milly is a Jack Russell and I am just learning about the breed but, apart from being a puppy, she is very different to Barney.
So this is where I need YOU to contribute! Tell me about YOUR dog. Is it a pure breed? Why do you love the breed? If your dog is a mutt do you think they are better? Whats the funniest or strangest cross -breed you know of? Look out for the special pages where you will be able to share your doggy stories and pictures. If you are looking for a breed or breeder there are other visitors who can help by responding to your queries.
Why not BOOKMARK Waggy Dogs and check back very soon for updates or Subscribe to the blog for the latest info. Its free and easy just click on the box above the Navigation bar to add it to your favourite toolbar.
Well thats all for now, have a happy, waggy day!

Mar 9, Crufts

I am sure many of you are aware that it's Crufts this week. I always forget to watch it until it's nearly finished! Still we saw it Saturday and tonight of course will be best in show as it draws to a close. Trouble is I always cry when they show the many dogs that do so much to help and support people. One of the areas I find fascinating is the Autism support dogs. They are making a huge difference to the lives of these children. There are many many assistance dogs, loyal and faithful and vital to their owners. On the show last night was also the story of the soldiers who rescued two dogs from the streets of Afghanistan. They now have a much better life. Let us never forget that our dogs just give and give no matter how they are treated. Truly mans best friend!

Mar 2, A Waggy Doggy Day

A beautiful day today in Derbyshire as it was yesterday - rather windy though! Barney and I had a lovely walk through the woods and down to the river. Across the fields to the stream where he had a splash and a paddle. Sounds idyllic doesn't it? Well it is and I realise how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful area. But I wouldn't enjoy it half as much without my doggies. Milly had her first proper walk yesterday! She was very funny, everything is so new and exciting for her. She walked very well on the lead but got fed up after a while and refused to go any further! Bless! Still haven't got her to understand she should do her toilet outside but she will get there. Now I'm looking forwards to when I can take Milly to the woods and the river too! Have a great weekend, enjoy walking those dogs and make sure you appreciate the beauty of your surroundings. In this busy life and all the bad stuff that surrounds us, we often forget what a wonderful world we do live in! Happy Mothers Day to all my fellow UK Mums also!

Well the second trip to the vets was quite a revelation! Our "Alfie" is a girl pup not a boy as we thought! Poor little thing! She was responding so well to the name "Alfie" and "good boy" too. She will have a complex. The funny thing is the vet that did the first vacs 2 weeks ago didn't spot it! So once I had recovered from the shock and had a good laugh we have renamed Alfie and SHE is now Milly. Has this ever happened to you? Please share your stories through the Contact page and I will feature them on Waggy Dogs.We want to hear any funny stories about our lovely waggy friends. Don't forget you can send in your pics too - just go to the Waggy Gallery. Til next time I have to get used to her,she and Millie! Have fun with your dogs.

Alfie has paid his first visit to the vet today for his first set of vacs. He was very good and had a worming tab also. He was the star of the place being so little and cute of course! It was also his first trip in the car and he was brilliant, just curled up and went to sleep. The good thing is he has been checked over and doesn't seem any worse for his shaky start in life. I wonder if he will always be this good when we visit the vet........

Jan 25, A Dog is not just for Christmas.............

Sadly this is still all too common. The stories are already coming in of abandoned dogs and puppies in record numbers. It's five weeks after Christmas and already people have had enough of what seemed like a fun, good idea at the time. To be honest it makes me furious! I am sure many of you reading this feel the same. Despite the amount of time and money put in trying to educate people, many still cannot accept the level of commitment needed for a dog and indeed many other pets. So they get dumped. Great. The already overflowing rescue centres and kennels find it harder and harder to cope.
If you are a dog or animal lover - and I wouldn't include the people that buy and dump them in that! - please see if you can find extra ways to help. Do you have the time and patience to rescue a dog who needs a loving home? Or could you up your giving to one of the many charities? Waggy Dogs has donation pages for Dogs Trust and the PDSA. The PDSA is important because without it many pets would go without vital medical treatment, causing even more suffering. I don't make a penny from these charity pages. I use the Just Giving organisation as a way of supporting the charities through my website.
If you could just take the time to look at the charity pages and see if there is any way you can help?
Barney,Alfie and me say a big thankyou!

Oct 31, Barneys Guy Fawkes Tips

Woof! It's that time of year that me and my waggy friends really don't like - Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes. All those bangs and flashes are really scary to us - we just don't get it! This is what my mistress does to help me through this time.
Stay calm yourself, reassure but don't over fuss as this can pass on that something is wrong.
Create distractions if you can with music or a playtime with treats.
A meal of pasta can make a dog more sleepy and relaxed.
Keep cats inside at night and try to walk your dog in the daytime if possible. Only let your dog out into the garden if you are sure that no fireworks are being let off nearby.
If you are going to a display please don't leave your dog alone around this time. Stay at home yourself or find a willing volunteer!
You can buy herbal treatments to soothe and calm also but make sure they are for animal use.
Enjoy your bonfire night but please remember to put your pets first!

Sep 24, Autumn walks

I love Autumn walks! All those leaves to chase and rummage in. Lot's of new smells and interesting stuff around. I have been going to the river most days but my mistress is busy walking other dogs too - sometimes I am allowed to go along. Only if I am on my best behaviour though! I couldn't get to my favourite swimming spot the other day as a family of swans had decided to use it for the day - huh! Well when I tried to be friendly and play they just hissed at me and flapped, which I didn't like much so we left them alone.
I heard the word V.E.T today which makes me a bit worried but it's something to do with stopping me getting sick so I guess that's okay.
Well I must go as the postman will be here soon which means I have some serious barking to do! Woof! Barney.

Woof! Barney here. I have had a lovely, happy waggy day! I went out walking with my master AND my mistress today. We went to somewhere called Catton Park in Derbyshire and for some reason they covered my lead and harness in bright yellow daffodils! I tell you, I felt really stupid until I noticed some other dogs who looked even sillier than me and had them everywhere! We all set off together and it was very exciting I made loads of new friends and there were lots of new smells too! At the end of the walk I got a certificate and everyone said well done. I had a great time but what did I do? Woof!
Barney took part in the Marie Curie sponsored dog walk. Others were taking place around the country and Barney raised about 70 for the Cancer Care charity. It was a nice small friendly event and a great walk. I will soon be setting up a Just Giving page for Marie Curie and adding it to the charities that Waggy Dogs supports. Thanks Barney Boo.

Aug 2, Barneys update

Woof! Barney here. I've had a lovely week with lots of walks in the sunshine and my mistress bought me some treats! I must have done something right or she realised I was bored. I had a new chewy thing for cleaning my teeth - apparently my breath was a bit smelly! Charming. A new Ragga, some doggy chocs and hide chews. I think maybe she is feeling guilty as, she thinks I don't know, but I have got to wait now to have a new dog brother. Something about it not being quite the right time :/
We have some new pictures in the Waggy Gallery and some are nearly as cute as me! Woof! If you are reading this and you have your own pet business or website then why not get listed in the Waggy directory? That way I know all my doggy and animal friends will be well looked after as humans will be able to find just what they need!
Right time to settle down for another snooze and dream about playing with my new brother..................

Woof! Barney here - just a few bits to tell you.
Well I had a really great walk with Monty dog the other day. Sometimes I find it hard being around other dogs, something to do with being a rescue dog apparently. But anyway I wasn't scared at all of Monty or the other dogs I met. My mistress was really happy as I was so good! She is even talking about getting me a little doggy brother! Woof! That might be nice as then I wouldn't be on my own.
I met a very big scary dog today and was very frightened so I panicked. That wasn't good and I know my mistress was upset - whoops! :(
On a brighter note the Waggy Dogs directory will be up and running this weekend. A list of all those pet and doggy things you just can't do without.
Til next time I will try to be good - woof - Barney.

Hi Barney here, well I thought I would let you know about my weekend. Well I had a lovely country walk on Saturday with my mistress. She said I need more concrete walks tho' because my claws are getting a bit long. Whoops! But I love the fields!
On Sunday my master took me out but it was VERY wet. Even I found it hard to get excited in all that rain and I usually love water! Woof!
Here at Waggy Dogs we want to support as many good causes as we can to help my waggy friends and other animals. We are very excited about the K9 Knitters group. They knit funky and unique dog coats and I have my eye on one already! I just hope my mistress doesn't pick one that makes me look silly in front of my waggy mates.
All the money goes to help dogs and they are always looking for volunteer knitters. Have a look at www.k9knitters.co.uk . You will also find the link on the charity page.
Well I must be off as I have a special treat today! I am going to meet Monty the Cavalier Spaniel who is a client of Waggy Dogs dog walking. Woof! Can't wait!

I'm Barney (otherwise known as Boo) and I am the site mascot for Waggy Dogs. I had a bit of a sad start in life and if you go to the rescue pages you can read my story. I am a very happy, waggy dog now though! Well I have had my morning walk and now it's time for a snooze. I got a bit wet on my walk as I was a bit too excitable and my owner had to squirt me a few times to calm me down. Whoops!
Check back often to find out more about Waggy Dogs and what I have been up to!
Woof! Boo. (that's what she calls me)
